Message To Saints And Giants Fans Alike While perusing the threads at a Saints-based fansite called The Saints Report, I was quite dismayed to see that some Saints fans were treated quite disgustingly at Monday night's game. Although I am damn sure some of it was blown out of proportion, I know some of it wasn't. There are assholes in every fanbase who can make the rest of us look bad, but, to be lumped AS A GROUP really burns my ass. Especially from those who felt the need to throw in their two-cents when they weren't even there, but, just jumped on the "New Yorkers are trash" bandwagon. That isn't going to fly. Not with this New Yorker. And not when Giants fans don't only come from NY, just as Saints fans aren't ALL from New Orleans. I personally met some of you who came from Virginia, New Jersey, Louisiana and Pennsylvania, to name a few. Keep that in mind before you try to stereotype. Now, to those of you Giants fans who took ugly, and unnecessary, pop-shots at the Saints fans, I can only say how disappointed and utterly disgusted I am with you. I am embarrassed that you call yourselves Giants fans. And I am dismayed that we should have anything in common, even if it is only who we root for. What kind of a disgusting animal uses the disaster in the Gulf as firepower when they are trash-talking? The play of the Saints alone provided enough ammo. There was no excuse for anything else to be thrown in. And if any of you were season ticket holders: you should be stripped of your tickets, which are a privilege, and they should be given to people who can conduct themselves with at least an iota of class while let loose in society. Don't get me wrong. I fully expect the trash-talking to have been at full blast. This was a football game after all. It's part of the fun of being at the game. And, God and anyone who has been to a Giants game knows, we trash-talk our own players more than we do the opposing fans in the stands. The complaining, by Saints fans, about blasting Joe Horn and other Saints, falls on deaf ears. I doubt, very highly, that Giants fans would be welcomed with champagne, caviar and kisses at the Superdome while the Saints fans cheered on Barber, Shockey and the rest. It's the other crap that is unacceptable. So, I would personally like to apologize to the Saints fans, who were in attendance, for the behavior of the cretins in our midst.
Oh, When The Saints Come Marching In...
Oh, When The Saints Come Marching In... I will be expecting all of my fellow Giants fans to welcome the Saints players warmly and loudly. We all remember the Kansas City game, after the tragic events of 9/11/01, and the incomparably amazing welcome our boys were greeted with when they took the field. I have no doubt in my mind that the boys from New Orleans will be treated the same. Of course, once the game starts, they are just another opponent. |
