BACK TO GIANTS ZONE HOME

DATE & TIME:    December 21, 2008, 8:15pm on NBC
OPPONENT:      Carolina Panthers

OUTCOME/NOTES:   GIANTS WIN 34-28 and clinch HFA!

Holy hell. I'm exhausted! Sooo worth it. Ya know, as a Giants fan I am well used to feeling like I am in the midst of a certain heart attack during most games. I bitch and moan about it and proclaim, quite honestly, that I truly believe when I die the cause of death will be "The New York Football Giants" and ya know what? I'm not really sure I would change a damn thing.

Easy blowouts where we are ahead by at least, AT LEAST, 2 TDs at all times? Bor-ing!

I kid. Kinda. I'm getting too old for this shit and fear one day soon, one  of these chest pains is gonna be The Big One. LOL

More later. Right now I need to do some deep-breathing exercises.

Breaking news: Giants/Panthers Game Moved to 8:15!

The NFL has tossed the Chargers / Bucs game on the night of Dec. 21 and replaced it with Giants / Panthers, changing it from it's original start time of 1pm.

Remember: That means a channel change over to NBC!

NFL Cutting Jobs...

Just saw on the news ticker on MSNBC that due to the "downturn in the economy" the NFL is slashing 10% of their staff in the office.

WTF? All those fucking fines didn't put an extra cushion in the coffers to pay these poor bastards?

Maybe the gov't should bail them out.... :duh2:

UPDATE: Make that 14%... From Bloomberg.com:

NFL to Fire 150 League Employees, Freeze Salaries

By Aaron Kuriloff

Dec. 9 -- The National Football League is cutting about 14 percent of its workforce at three locations in the next two months and freezing salaries through 2009 in response to the global economic slump.

The U.S.’s most-watched television sport plans to reduce its staff of 1,100 by about 150 employees at three league facilities: its New York City headquarters; the NFL Films production facility in Mount Laurel, New Jersey; and production facilities for the NFL Network and NFL.com in Los Angeles.

“These are difficult and painful steps but they are necessary in the current economic climate,” Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a staff memo.

Goodell said in October that the league and its 32 teams had slashed expenses to save “a significant amount of money” and hoped to avoid job cuts. The league will offer a buyout to U.S. employees with at least five years of experience, the memo said.

NFL Films, the league’s documentary company, in March fired 7 percent of its workers.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the blood drive Saturday, 11/1!

Tyree's season over before it begins

David Tyree, one of the biggest heroes of Super Bowl XLII, has been placed on season-ending injured reserve.

That move hardly comes as a surprise, since Tyree has been sidelined since April when he first suffered an injury to his knee. He needed surgery to repair it and wasn’t healthy in time for training camp, so he was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. He was finally able to return to practice on Oct. 15, and according to the rules of PUP, the Giants had until today to either activate him, release him or place him on IR.

His situation was complicated by the fact that he suffered a strained hamstring two weeks ago, limiting his practice time during the three-week evaluation period. That injury really left the Giants with no other choice.

“Really the medical people feel like he’s still a ways away,” Tom Coughlin said. “It’s something that, to be honest with you, when he started the season on PUP we felt at some point in time he’d be ready to go. The unfortunate part of this is over the three-week period he was really unable to (practice) because of the hamstring issue.”

Coughlin said Tyree “actually took it very well and understood the position we were in.”

It certainly is possible that this could mark the end of Tyree’s career with the Giants, given the depth this team has at the receiver position. But before you jump to that conclusion, I’ll caution you that Coughlin is a big fan of Tyree. And Tyree - as we all saw during the Super Bowl last February - has a knack for coming through in the clutch.

DATE & TIME: October 26, 2008, 4:15pm on FOX
OPPONENT:     Pittsburgh Steelers

OUTCOME:      GIANTS WIN 21-14!

NOTES:            Whole lotta people getting banged up tonight. I'd like to give a special shout-out to Pittsburgh's punter, Mitch Berger. You could see the pain on his face every time he was out on the field, especially all the hobbling after a kick, yet he was still out there when needed. He's kinda like the Kerri Strug of football. :)

And, of course, congrats to my boys for putting another opponent away and another check in the "W" column.

I'll write more later tonight when I have a little more time.

BIG SHOUTOUT TO MY FELLOW GIANTS FANS, ETC...

Just wanted to say a huge "THANK YOU" from me, and GiantsZone, to everyone who participated in the destruction of SeahawksHuddle.

I apologize for the generic flavor of this post, but, since I have about 20 sites to post it on, I thought I'd just get everyone in one fell swoop and do a little copy/paste, since I'm not the world's fastest typist and it would take 5 years for me to post a fresh one for each. LOL

My biggest thanks have to go to the members of GiantsZone, BigBlueInteractive and the Giants official message board (as well as some of the smaller Giants sister sites), who took this and ran absolutely crazy with it. The way the members swarmed the Huddle and made life very uncomfortable for not only "Mason", the initial instigator, but, also the other lowlifes who didn't seem to see anything wrong with posting jokes regarding the events of 9/11, and thought we New Yorkers should "just get over it. The rest of the world did."

No matter what else in life, we can all be proud of our fellow Giants fans. We may do a little bickering... ok, alot of bickering... amongst ourselves, but, when called upon we can act as one hell of an army. I think the country got a nice little glimpse of that in the last few days.

And to the NFL fansite alliance members of F2FA.com. Thank you, as well, for proving that this wasn't just a New York insult, but an AMERICAN insult. And to the guys at F2FA themselves, for removing SeahawksHuddle from the alliance, and the support shown me when I first alerted you that I would NOT be following the rules next week.

To Ralph Vacchiano (NY Daily News) and Bob Glauber (Newsday), our local sports boys, who took up the charge and covered the incident, eloquently and emotionally, in their online blogs when we all came to you. I know at first both of you were hesitant to give "advertising" to the offenders, so, I thank you, from the bottom of my blue heart, for putting that aside and joining the fight.

Deadspin, Gawker, The Seattlelist and everyone else who also covered the disgusting behavior shown by some of the members of SH and helped spread the word.

To the Seattle Seahawks organization, who responded quickly with an apology, and I imagine had more than a little to do with the taking down of the offending website.

And as a small reminder to the folks who will be attending the game at Giants Stadium, next week vs. the Seahawks:

I know, more than most, that emotions ran VERY high this week and we were all offended and disgusted by the actions of those few. But, that's just it, it was just a handful out of many and we shouldn't hold the Seahawks fanbase, as a whole, responsible. There was alot of internet tough guy talk in regards to "revenge" when they see a 'Hawks jersey. That's just stupid and would make you no better than the idiots who started this all.

Lets show the world that not only how we can come together to fight as one, but, we can also represent the class and dignity that the Mara Family, and the New York Giants organization, has always shown. That being said, I want that place ROCKING from the noise next Sunday. We are New Yorkers, after all... Loud is what we do.

Thanks again to everyone who took up our fight. There's no way we could've accomplished all this without each and every one of you.

GO BIG BLUE!

8/31/08: The "big" news is that we've signed DE Jerome McDougle after the Eagles released him. Works for me since I feel they "stole" him from us at the draft anyway. :-)

Signed to the Practice Squad: QB Andre' Woodson, CB Geoffrey Pope, OL Na'Shan Goddard, OL Kurt Quarterman, DT Jeremy Clark, WR Marcus Monk and DE Wallace Gilberry.

Yesterday Guy Whimper was put on IR.

8/30/08- HERE COME THE CUTS, FOLKS

So far the Giants have released CB Geoffrey Pope, OL Andrew Bain, QBs Anthony Wright and Andre Woodson, S Stuart Schweigert, DE Wallace Gilberry, DE Alex Morrow, TE Jerome Collins, OL Na'Shan Goddard, OL Digger Bujnoch, DT Jeremy Clark and, so far, the biggest surprise of all, WR Brandon London, who could make the practice squad if he clears waivers.

More to come. Will update as I can.

*update* Giants are all set to sign kicker John Carney, to fill in for Tynes, according to his agent, anyway. This guy played on the LA Rams... no, that's not a typo, youngsters... 44 years old. Oh well, Huston didn't exactly make me sleep well at night.

8/24/08 - Update on Umenyiora: MRI showed torn ligaments.  He will undergo surgery and, most likely, is out for the season.

Shoot me now.

Shockey To The Fucking Saints

The Blue One Is NOT Happy, People

The Giants have agreed to trade their disgruntled tight end to the New Orleans Saints for a second-round pick and a fifth-round pick. The deal is pending league approval, according to a league source. Shockey must also pass a physical.

The compensation is the same the Saints offered New York back in April prior and during to the draft ... and it was turned down.

The move comes one day after Jason Taylor was traded from Miami to New York's NFC East rivals in Washington. According to a report on SI.com, the Giants had held discussions about a three-team trade in which they would have ended up with Taylor, the Saints would have landed Shockey and the Dolphins would have received a pair of draft picks.

The emergence of rookie Kevin Boss during the Giants' improbable Super Bowl run — a stretch Shockey missed due to a broken leg — made Shockey expendable. Boss started six games after Shockey's injury (two regular season and all four during the Giants' postseason run), making nine catches for 140 yards and a TD.

During the team's recent minicamp, Shockey reportedly engaged in a shouting match with GM Jerry Reese, just the latest controversy involving the outspoken former first-round pick out of the University of Miami.

Shockey's absence in Phoenix during the Super Bowl was conspicuous to say the least. According to some reports, one of the many sources of Shockey's displeasure with the team was that he was not allowed to stand on the team's sidelines during the game.

Today Blue is VERY Sad, Indeed: Strahan Retires

Giants DE Strahan to retire after 15 years, seven Pro Bowls
12:17 PM ET

Michael Strahan, the New York Giants' 15-year veteran defensive end and seven-time Pro Bowl player who helped lead them to a 2008 Super Bowl win, has decided to retire.

"It was important that my teammates knew which way I was going before they got on the field to start the work to defend our title," Strahan told foxsports.com, which first reported his retirement plans. "It's time. I'm done."

The Giants, who begin minicamp Wednesday, signed defensive end Renaldo Wynn last Monday as an insurance policy should Strahan retire.

"It's a tough decision but I wanted to be fair to the Giants and fair to my teammates," Strahan said, according to foxsports.com.

Strahan, the Giants' all-time sack leader, recorded a career-high 22½ in 2001. He posted nine last season, which inlcuded 46 tackles, as the Giants won their third Super Bowl, beating the New England Patriots 17-14.

KIWANUKA HEALTHY, THRILLED TO BE BACK

June 4, 2008 -- A year ago, the last body parts Mathias Kiwanuka had to concern himself with were his legs. It was his head that was spinning.

He looked like a tall, rangy defensive end asked to switch positions and play linebacker, which is precisely what he was. The offseason was one gigantic period of adjustment that spilled over into the confusion of the regular season.

Yesterday, Kiwanuka spent his morning on the field along with his Giant teammates, admittedly more excited than most of them to merely be out there running around. He missed the last six games of the regular season with a broken left leg and ankle damage that required surgery, meaning he was a very interested bystander for the entire playoff run and Super Bowl glory.

"This is excellent," Kiwanuka said after working up a sweat during the Giants third and by far most strenuous Organized Team Activity practice.

"I'll take every rep I can, every snap I can take. ... It's a chance to get oiled up on some of the new things and get back into the old things we used to do.

"I'm looking forward to all of it."

Why not? Kiwanuka started the first 10 games last season on the strong side and was just beginning to look like a bona fide linebacker when on Nov. 18 his left fibula snapped in Detroit.

It was a heavy blow to the defense, as Kiwanuka served many different roles, including moving in as a defensive tackle in pass-rush situations.

Kiwanuka said he came through yesterday's first real test with no residual problems. For now, he remains at linebacker, although that could change if Michael Strahan retires.

***EXTRA NOTES***

The five missing players were a predictable group: DE Michael Strahan, TE Jeremy Shockey, DE Osi Umenyiora, WR Plaxico Burress and LB Antonio Pierce, who is on his honeymoon in Hawaii.

David Tyree, coming off knee surgery, did not participate and won't do anything until training camp at the earliest.

RB Derrick Ward, coming off a broken leg, took the first handoff in the team period.

Rookie WR Mario Manningham once mistakenly went in with the offense even though there were already 11 men on the field. Later, he lined up in the wrong spot.

Now That A Few Days Have Passed

I'm still fucking jacked!

I was just starting to get over the shock, for lack of a better word, of going TO the SuperBowl when SHAZAM! now I'm flying on the cloud of WINNING the SuperBowl.

I would really just like to take a second and let my boys know just how proud I am of them. It's not always easy being a Giants fan (especially since, with the way they like to end games, I'm sure they're trying to kill me for some reason), but, good or bad, it always a pleasure.

Some special accolades:

To you, Mr. Tyree... I told you at your first camp that I expected great things from you, and you've more than delivered with your beast-like way on special teams, but, hot damn. Looks like I was right. I still don't know how the hell you came down with that ball on your head while Harrison was trying to damn near rape you.

And you, my defense... I guess you guys didn't get the memo that Brady "can't be touched". (5 sacks on him which hasn't happened since 2003, or so?) Brady spent more time on his back than a bargain basement Las Vegas hooker. I'm especially proud of you guys. With all the injuries, and switches, it never slowed you down a step. You guys came on fire in week three and never stopped laying punishment on those who had the misfortune to come against you.

Chief Osi, you using Brady's head to push yourself off the ground cracked me the fuck up. You may have blown me off at camp (not that I hold a grudge or anything), but, I thank God you're with us and not against us. Yes, Mike, we want ONE MORE YEAR... at least. Old, my ass. Call me a homer, but, I'd still take you over any DE in the league. Justin, my my my, something tells me we'll be screaming your name for years to come.

Onto my offense... Amani, I've been singing your praises, and slammin' all who think differently, all season. I've always said you were an integral part of our offense. Even when you're having a "quiet game" you come through when we need you. Plax, I dunno what Pittsburgh was crying about. You have yet to let me down. Even banged up you deliver, in spectacular ways, and not one day has gone by that I've regretted you coming to NY.

And last, but, certainly not least, our MVP, Mr. Manning... I've never shied away from admitting I was not pleased when the infamous trade went down and there have been times where you've frustrated me to the point where I wanted to rip my fucking hair out, but, I've always held true to the belief that with enough time, and experience, for you to truly feel like the leader of the offense, that you would prove yourself to do great things. Hopefully, that shiny new ring will give you a reprieve from the naysayers... at least for the first couple of weeks next season.

Let them talk about your "aw shucks" demeanor, if that's all they got. I guess some would prefer the New York flamboyance of a Joe Namath, but, I'd much rather not worry about seeing you try to give the Suzy Kolbers of the world sloppy, drunken kisses 20 years from now. Or being a hothead who makes headlines for screaming at your receiving corps on national TV. "Aw shucks" works just fine for me.

I'd love to run down the full roster, and coaching staff, and give everyone their due personally, but, time is short and my fingers are starting to cramp. (And besides, I'll need something to write about in the off season.) So, let me just finish by saying, once again, how proud I am of my boys in blue.

Enjoy your glory, and all that comes with it, for you surely deserve every bit of it.

We Fucking Did It!

Holy crap!

Congratulations to my WORLD CHAMPION New York Giants!

One More Day

And the wait has become damn near unbearable. I feel like I'm jumping out of my skin. I wish I could just go to sleep and wake up tomorrow, five minutes before kickoff. Ok- maybe a half hour so I could at least take a shower and get my game gear on.

Up until two days ago, I was ready to never turn my TV on again until Feb. 3rd. I just couldn't take all the knob-slobbin' over the Patriots that was rampaging throughout the media. You'd almost think they forgot another team was playing in the game.

Now, I don't mind people doubting my Giants. In fact, as most of you know, who read my erratic, psychotic ramblings, that I prefer it. I'm inclined to believe that my boys prefer it, as well. Let's face it the more they say we can't do it, the better we DO do it.

So, back to two days ago... That's when I was ready to never turn my TV on again, until Feb. 3rd, because all of a sudden a shitload of people came out of the woodwork to either say they thought the Giants were going to win, or they wanted the Giants to win.

Wait a minute... not only are we being given some credit, but, journalists and players, from other teams, are pulling for us? What is this? The fucking Twilight Zone?

I don't like it. Gives me the creeps.

One more day...one more day. I can do it.

Good luck to my boys and make us proud.

-Blue
