Ladies and gentlemen, it is with great surprise that I
report I am at a loss for words. Almost. It is me, after all.
Warner is done. And for those of you who, for whatever
reason, don’t feel the need to place too much of the blame at his feet, I
suggest you stop living in the past, under the comforting blanket of his
past successes.
He needs to pass the torch to The Wonder Kid (if you
believe in such titles) and take the place of mentor ONLY.
You see, I like and respect Warner. Don’t get me wrong.
He seems like a nice enough guy, I suppose. And last I checked he wasn’t
being investigated for drugs, murder or rape.
Problem is that my like and respect dwindles with each
passing week. I don’t know if, when he speaks to the press, he truly
believes he is the least to blame for the foibles of the NY Giants or if he
is just trying to save face to end his career. God knows, he is playing like
he is more concerned for stats than wins.
As quite a few people already know, I had made myself a
nice “THROW THE DAMN BALL” sign to bring with me to the game against the
Bears. I unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you look at it,
forgot my sign in my haste to get out of the house and off to the stadium. I
joke and say I would have had to remember to bring a magic marker with me to
add “PLEASE DON’T” at the top of it. But, this isn’t a joke people. This is
my team and their season at stake.
Let’s face it, he hasn’t won the games that have
brought us to 5-3. Any quarterback with working arms can hand off a ball and
get great results from a running back as talented as Tiki Barber. I could do
it. And I suck.
The defense, for all their weaknesses and so-called
“lack of unity” (in conjunction with the heart and soul of the team,
Barber), have been keeping us in it.
The proof is in the results of the games where the
defense was less than fully charged and Barber couldn’t break out a 200 yard
game. Losses.
Our biggest, and most spectacular win? Against the
Vikings. Why? Because the running backs (Barber and Cloud) racked up points
and the defense kept taking the Viking offense’s chances away by returning
the ball to us repeatedly.
It’s time to start getting our future QB some
experience. Yes, he can learn a lot sitting on the sideline watching. He’ll
learn even more by getting his ass in there and getting a feel for the
timing of an NFL game and building a rapport with his receivers.
