BYE WEEK BLUES

So, here we are. That day so many look forward to, for various reasons; the day so many dread, for so many reasons. And the large group of us who fall into both categories.

Game day during our team’s bye week.

Sure, it’s great that our team gets some much needed rest to recharge their batteries and rest their weary bones and injuries. Unfortunately, we fans need to find something to pass the time while those lucky bastards (fans of teams who are playing) get to watch, cheer and boo their favorite teams.

Personally, I see myself getting some much needed laundry done. Then there’s that bathroom that is starting to look like it can be found in any gas station across this great country of ours.

As I ask others, in my predicament, what they do to pass the bye week, I notice a pattern. There sure are going to be a lot of chores getting done today. Cleaning and/or fixing various items around the house. Finally getting to that pile of work you brought home with you. Mowing the lawn and getting the yard ready for winter. Washing the dog.

Some of you even dared to tell me that you would go to church. If I know you’re lying, don’t you think God does?

Some of us may actually do all those things we claim. I’m willing to bet the rest of us, the majority, will be sitting on our couches, getting our “fix’ with whatever game or games are playing in our area; tracking how many points our fantasy players have reaped us; and, of course, keeping one eye on the sports ticker, watching the scores and feeling a little extra joyful if one or more of our enemies fall.

Let’s face it, people, the laundry has waited this long and I’ve got enough underwear to get me through the winter.

And regardless of how much it needs it, I had no intention of cleaning the bathroom.
